Som noget helt nyt kan du på vores Netauktion over samtidskunst opleve værkerne i vores nye virtuelle galleri. Mange af værkerne tager livtag med nogle af de allerstørste kontraster i vores tid, såsom kaos og kontrol – tematikker, der lige nu er mere aktuelle end nogensinde.
Sjælfuld, kontrolleret og indadvendt
De danske kunstnere Cathrine Raben Davidsen og Trine Søndergaards sjælfulde, indadvendte og kontrollerede motiver af kvinder er blandt højdepunkterne på auktionen. I Søndergaards ”Strude” er indadvendtheden helt fysisk: en kvinde iklædt den traditionelle strude-hovedbeklædning fra Fanø, som engang beskyttede kvinder mod vind og vejr, men som i dag giver helt nye og komplekse associationer. I Raben Davidsens pastel- og akvareltegning emmer den æteriske kvindesilhuet af en mere indadvendt sårbarhed. Men værket gennemsyres samtidig af værdig styrke, understreget af figurens profil og den markante og stoflige røde farve.
Eksplosivt kaos
I stærk kontrast til Raben Davidsen og Søndergaards kontrollerede kvinder står Trine Boesens værk ”Explosions”. Tematikken i kunstnerens eksplosive collager tilføres i disse uger helt nye og væsentlige lag. Kunstnerens skarpe blik for verdener, der splintres og er af lave, indfanger præcis den følelse, som vi er mange, der er ramt af i disse uger. I værket skydes store og små stumper af konstruktioner, sommerfuglevinger, jernrør, lygtepæle og nøgleringe ud i et vægtløst og uendeligt rum uden fast orden. Alt er underlagt de ustyrlige og usynlige kræfter, som står bag, og kun tilfældigheder afgør, hvad der bliver hårdest ramt. Men med sin kunstneriske sirlighed og udførelse rummer værket på den anden side også en stor ekvilibrisme og kontrol.
At komme overens med historien
Kunstneren Nina Kleivans provokerende serie af fotografier, ”Potency”, er for det umiddelbare blik hård kost, som italesætter de dystre sider af vores fælles historie, men fra et samtidigt ståsted. En baby iklædt forskellige diktator-kostumer fra Idi Amin til Hitler hænger side om side i 10 forskellige varianter. Den umage serielle forbindelse mellem baby og diktator tvinger os til refleksion. Det kunne være nærliggende at tro, men værket er ikke skabt i sympati med diktatorerne – kunstnerens egen bedstefar var i koncentrationslejr. Det er skabt for at italesætte vores forhold til ondskab og skabe diskussion, fx om ondskab er medfødt. Ved at iklæde den uskyldige baby – kunstnerens egen datter i øvrigt – disse kostumer, udstiller hun diktatorernes iscenesatte ondskabsfuldhed og latterlighed. Et forsøg på at komme overens med historiens forfærdelige kaos og tage kontrollen tilbage med et kunstnerisk (humoristisk) greb.

Contemporary art – between chaos and control
As a brand-new initiative, you can now view the works of the Online Auction of contemporary art in our new virtual gallery. Many of the works grapple with some of the greatest contrasts of our time – chaos and control – themes that are more relevant than ever right now.
With more than 120 works in the current auction, we have the pleasure of presenting the largest ever Online Auction of contemporary art. Thematically, the works range from the introvertedly controlled to the explosively chaotic, priced from DKK 2,000 to DKK 300,000 for the most expensive – a large oil painting by Michael Kvium [LINK].

Soulful, controlled and introverted
Danish artists Cathrine Raben Davidsen and Trine Søndergaard’s soulful, introverted and controlled motifs of women are just some of the highlights of the auction. In Søndergaard’s “Strude”, the introversion is entirely physical: a woman dressed in the traditional “strude” headgear from the Danish island of Fanø, which once protected women from the elements, but which today has whole other, complex connotations. In Raben Davidsen’s pastel and watercolour drawing, an ethereal silhouette of a woman exudes a more introverted vulnerability. But the work is also permeated with dignified strength, emphasised by the figure’s profile and the distinctive, textural red.
Explosive chaos
In stark contrast to Raben Davidsen and Søndergaard’s controlled women is Trine Boesen’s work, “Explosions”. The themes of the artist’s explosive collages take on a new and important relevance at this time. The artist’s keen eye for worlds that are shattered and out of joint captures precisely what many of us are feeling right now. In the work, various fragments large and small, butterfly wings, iron pipes, lamp posts and key rings are shot indiscriminately into a weightless, infinite space. Everything is totally at the mercy of the uncontrollable, invisible forces behind it, with no way of knowing what will be hardest hit. Conversely, with its artistic neatness and execution, the work also displays great equilibrism and control.
Reconciling with history
Artist Nina Klevan’s provocative series of photographs, “Potency”, is at first glance sombre stuff, articulating the bleak aspects of our shared history, but from a contemporary standpoint. Photos of a baby dressed in the costumes of various dictators, from Idi Amin to Hitler, hang side by side – 10 different ones. The mismatched serial connection between baby and dictator forces us to reflect. Despite what one could be led to believe, the work has not been created in sympathy with the dictators – the artist’s own grandfather spent time at a concentration camp. It has been created to articulate our relationship with evil and inspire discussion about whether evil is innate, for example. By dressing the innocent baby – the artist’s own daughter incidentally – in these costumes, she exhibits the dictators’ staged malice and ridiculousness. An attempt to reconcile the terrible chaos of history and take back control with an artistic (humorous) grip.
